Velez siblings lead tennis winners
MANILA, Philippines - Siblings Rachelle Patricia Velez and John David Velez, together with another brothers’ tandem of Mikko Al-Rashid Ringia and Janus Al-Najeeb Ringia dominated their respective divisions to lead the winners in the Kidapawan City leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier National Age Group Tennis Series Championships recently.
The two pairs took six titles with Rachelle Patricia trouncing Carlyn Bless Guarde, 6-3, 6-2, in the 16-and-under finals and scoring a 6-2 (ret.) win over Diadem Sasota in the 14-and-under class.
John David, on the other hand, dominated Eric John Comendador twice, winning 4-0, 4-0, in the 10-and-under and 6-3, 6-4 in the 12-and-under.
Mikko Al-Rashid, meanwhile, won the 18-and-under title with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win over Abson John Alejandre while Janus Al -Najeeb topped the 14-and-under category with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Stephen Tubbs.
The other winners in the event backed by Philta chairman Jean Henri Lhuillier were Vince Tugade, who downed Jyle Cirin Martinez, 4-6, 6-1, 12-10, in the boys’ 16-and-under; Lyndie Bisnar, who disposed Nikki Vergara, 6-1, 6-1, in the girls’ 18-and-under; and Princess Bolasa, who swept Theresa Claire Nacito, 6-1, 6-1, for the 10-and-under unisex diadem.
