MANILA, Philippines – San Beda College-Alabang went thru the wringer to defeat Philippine Women's University, 25-16, 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-7, and bag the college division title in the Women's Colleges Sports Association (WCSA) volleyball finals Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The Alabang-based Lady Red Spikers swept the best-of-three championship series, 2-0, and finished the season undefeated in nine matches, with Eula Ugalde winning the Most Valuable Player plum.

Impressive blockings plus good defense and service allowed San Beda-Alabang to rally from a 1-2 set deficit to extend the match to a decider.

"Ang sabi ko binigyan na kami ng chance to grab what is ours kaya this time paghirapan na and don't waste any opportunities na darating," said Lady Red Spikers coach Jeorge Sucaldito.

In the deciding frame, the Lady Patriots made a couple of errors that allowed San Beda-Alabang to pull away early in the set, as the Lady Red Spikers held on with their defense, attacks, and service to close out the exciting game.

Ugalde also bagged the Best Receiver plum, while the Best Blocker award went to her teammate Jem Fagara, and the Best Server honors went to Charlene Salazar.
