Yachts major draws in Seafair 2014
MANILA, Philippines - Seafair 2014, the country’s biggest nautical and marine trade show, will have luxurious yachts as its major attraction when it starts Thursday at the Cultural Center Complex Bay Terminal overlooking the Philippine Navy headquarters and Manila Yacht Club.
“While their respective owners opt to keep a low profile, they are nonetheless proud to display their yachts in our event,†said Ey Bacasmas-Po of organizing Legworks. “These vessels are the main draws of our trade fair.â€
Among those to be showcased, Po said, are the M/Y Shanti, a sleek 70-foot yacht powered by a Caterpillar 3408B V8, 420-horsepower diesel engine with a cruising speed of 7 to 8.5 knots. Cummins generators provide steady electricity throughout the yacht.
The M/Y Shanti is a “party yacht†that can handle a maximum of 45 cruising passengers and boasts of large main deck, has an air-conditioned saloon and three cabins where guests can refresh themselves in comfort.
Also on display during the four-day show backed by Megaworld, Ayalaland Premier and Robinson’s Land is the M/Y Yrang, a fast 50-foot yacht driven by a Detroit 8-cyclinder, 680-horsepower engine. The yacht’s cruising speed is 12 to 14 knots.
A mid-size yacht with a capacity of 10-15 passengers, the M/Y Yrang’s amenities include well-appointed saloons decked with teak and narra furnishings from Malaysia and Burma. Guests can have a 360-degree view of their surroundings on the flybridge.
“Visitors will all have the opportunity to board the M/Y Shanti, M/Y Yrang and other yachts during our trade fair,†said Adm. Dan Villa, “and see for themselves the grand lifestyle of some of our yacht owners.â€
Both the M/Y Shanti and M/Y Yrang will be involved in the simultaneous fireworks show capping the opening day activities of the event backed by ALS Marine, Tronqued Boats, Tow and Stow Industries and Scan Marine.
Booths displaying the latest in water apparel and marine accessories plus clinics on nautical safety, dragon boat rowing and surfing will also be conducted to spice up the fair supported by Bonne Maman and VMV hypoallergenics.
