Cagayan fancied in Petron volley

MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan Valley will be fielding in two tough teams, making it as an instant title contender in the Petron Ladies beach volleyball tournament which kicks off its 2014 season tomorrow in Sta. Ana

Focus will be on top hitters Paulina Soriano and Angeli Tabaquero, who will be separately seeing action in the annual spikefest at the Anguib Beach.

Soriano, who last won the crown with former Adamson University teammate Sheila Mae Pineda two years ago, is back with a new partner in Janine Marciano for Cagayan I, while Tabaquero makes debut in the event alongside former UE standout Leushet Dawis for Cagayan 2.

“This will be tough. Kailangan ng diskarte,” said Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas stalwart Alyanna Marie Gorospe during yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

Gorospe also saw action two years ago and is back with new teammate Justine Mae Tadeo under the Philippine National Police banner.

Organizer Tisha Abundo, who was present with Mikasa Ball’s Luz Ricardo and Cagayan Economic Zone Authority public information officer Gabriel Lingan, said the present field will make the first leg a very competitive tournament.

Letran spikers Monique Joy Pablo and Ethel Margaret Evangelista are also in the fold, along with Rizal Tech-1’s Jessa Arandia and Cielo Palahang, RTU-2’s Priscilla Catacutan and Jonafer San Pedro.

Air Force-1’s Judy Caballejo and Ana Abanto, and Gena Andaya Iari Yongco of Air Force-2, Perpetual Help-Laguna-1 spikers Elaine Kasilag and Ariana de Leon andUPH-Laguna-2’s Abigail Nuval and Hyrize Macabuhay comprise the rest of the field.
