Salvador, Sangil pace Mango Tee

MANILA, Philippines - Paul Salvador and Raymund Sangil poised themselves for a rare double after emerging as the leaders for both the overall gross and net competition on Day 4 of the 30th Mango Tee Invitational at the Alabang Country Club.

Salvador and Sangil had aggregate rounds of 136 for gross and 150 with their handicaps to stay on track for the crown in the event which drew 800 players in a six-day fiesta celebrating the pearl anniversary of the Mango Tee.

Salvador-Sangil posted a big 16-point lead in gross play and snatched a one-point lead in net play with a 150 which was the score to beat for at least a dozen frontrunners still with a chance of winning going into the final days of the member-guest tournament presented by Petron, Smart Infinity and Pancake House/Yellow Cab.

Henry Medina and his guest partner Wilfredo Roldan showed the way in Class B, Mina Attwood and Daisy Jackes paced Class C and Roberto Manabat-Gaudencio Hernandez was on top in Class D of the event which stakes almost P10 million worth of prizes topped by a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a Toyota FT-86, a Mitsubishi Pajero, and a Chevrolet Spin aside from golf carts from Texas Eagle, Club Car and Yamaha, business motorcycles from APE and a top-of-the-line Canon camera as hole-in-one prizes never before seen in the long history of the Mango Tee.

Other backers of the event are Pepsi, Turf Co., Pacific Links, Royal Caribbean, Food Details, Chivas Regal, Business Mirror, TW Steel, Solaire, Wendy’s, Mizuno and PacSports as major sponsors.

Hole-in-one sponsors include CATS Motors, Citimotors, Chevrolet/Volvo, Toyota, Texas Eagle, Club Car, Yamaha, Canon and APE. Attwood and Jackes, among the first batch of 20 female players who were finally accepted in the Mango Tee, were five ahead of Rey and Victor Icasas with their 138 total. Medina and Roldan led Arnel Ilas and Glodoveo Fortuna by one with their 138 and Manabat-Hernandez was three up on the pair of Derek Barclay with their 135.
