Phil powers Sparks over Stallion in UFL

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Phil Younghusband came through with another stellar performance as he lifted Loyola Meralco Sparks to a 3-1 victory over reigning titlist Stallion Gilligan’s to stay on top in the First Divizz sion of the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium Tuesday night.

Younghusband volleyed a rebound off a missed header by Boyet Canedo to open up the scoring on the 30th minute then completed a brace five minutes before endgame to seal the Sparks’ fifth straight win.

Loyola thus hiked its total to 15 points, six points ahead of Global FC of Dan Palami.

The prolific Younghusband has at least scored one in all of his team’s victories, including a 3-0 rout of Green Archers United-Globe last Jan. 28.

Hamed Hajimahdi scored a penalty shot to tie the match at one goal apiece on the 61st minute after Loyola right-back Alexander Elnar brought down Stallion’s Naser Doroudian inside the box.

But Lee Joo Young came up with a spectacular goal on the 67th.
