Bombers ground Eagles in Martin Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Jose Rizal University, University of Perpetual Help and San Sebastian College trounced their respective rivals to boost their bids in the 10th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup at the Arellano U gym in Legarda over the weekend.
Marco Balagtas, Dave Sanchez and Philip Paniamogan took charge for the Heavy Bombers, who upended the reigning Division 2 Cup champion Ateneo Blue Eagles, 77-61. Balagtas had 14 points while Sanchez and Paniamogan tossed in 11 points apiece for JRU, which improved to 2-1.
The Blue Eagles fell to their second straight setback for a 3-2 card in Group A.
The Altas, meanwhile, outplayed St. Joseph College-Bulacan, 81-73, to even their card at 2-2.
Over in Group B, Jovit de la Cruz shot 16 points and Jaymar Perez had 15 markers for the Stags, who blasted the University of the Philippines Maroons, 84-76.
In women’s play, Jhenn Angeles drilled in 10 points for the UST Tigresses, who routed the Our Lady of Fatima University Lady Phoenix, 82-47.
