La Salle Spikers stay perfect

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion La Salle banked on Abi Maraño’s game-long brillance to fashion out another straight sets triumph, 25-9, 25-19, 25-13, over Adamson, and move closer to a semifinals berth in the UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Maraño, who is playing her final season for the Lady Spikers, had four blocks for a 12-hit showing and recorded eight digs.

“Lumalabas kung ano ang inilalabas sa practice. Nakaka-execute ng tama ang mga bata,” said La Salle mentor Ramil de Jesus, who is a victory shy of achieving his 200th UAAP career win.

La Salle extended its perfect run to nine games and 25 dating back to last season.

Sheila Pineda had nine points and nine digs for the Lady Falcons, who went down to fifth place with a 4-5 card.

Earlier, Far Eastern University turned back University of the East, 20-25, 25-5, 25-18, 25-20, to gain a one-game lead over Adamson in the race for the No. 4 spot.
