Maroons edge Tigers; Falcons turn back Bulldogs

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of the Philippines poured it all in the final inning to frustrate University of Santo Tomas, 14-13, while Adamson University coasted past National University, 4-2, in the UAAP baseball tournament yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Jose Miguel San Juan scattered four RBIs for the Fighting Maroons in the contest that was a “restart” of their first-round encounter last Jan. 5 that was called off due to darkness with UP ahead, 7-5, after six innings.

The Tigers were fiercer yesterday and gradually built a 13-9 cushion at the top of the ninth inning. But the Fighting Maroons refused to wilt and exploded with five runs to nail their second victory in five games.

Gerald Sagarang and Jose Miguel San Juan starred in UP’s final-inning rally with RBI singles that sent the Tigers reeling to their fourth loss in five matches, the same record as the Bulldogs.
