Wesley draws Russian GM

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So survived Russian Sergey Karjakin’s sacrificial attack and pulled off a 51-move draw in their Queen’s Indian duel to remain in the upper half of the 2014 Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee after seven rounds Sunday night.

The fifth-seeded Karjakin, the 10th strongest player in the world with a 2759 rating against So’s 2719 or good for only 28th in the world, sacrificed a rook for a knight to gain some attacking play.
