Que trails by one
MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que went on a strong start to fire a six-under 66 and trail Thai Prom Meesawat and Swede Rikard Karlberg by one at the start of the Asian Tour’s season-ending King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand yesterday.
Que birdied the first two holes, hit three more birdies in a six-hole stretch from No. 6 then added two more in the closing holes to negate a missed-green bogey mishap on the par-4 No. 12. With a 33-33 card, the Filipino ace tied Taiwan Lin Wen-tang at third.
Meesawat sizzled with two eagles to go with five birdies as he turned in a 34-31 card marred by two bogeys to share the early lead with Karlberg, who also gunned down an eagle and seven birdies against a double-bogey for a 30-35 round.
But while Que put himself in early contention in the $1 million event, the other Filipino bets struggled with Tony Lascuña settling for a 71, Jay Bayron fumbling with a 75, Elmer Salvador limping with a 76 and Mars Pucay ending up with a 77.
