Amir wants Mayweather but can fight Pacman, too

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Amir Khan, the pride of Bolton, England, is throwing himself at Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

The 27-year-old former light-welterweight champion is in the short, exclusive list of possible opponents for Mayweather in May.

The others in the mix are Marcos Maidana, now the WBA welterweight champion, and, of course, Pacquiao, the ex-pound-for-pound king.

Mayweather is the reigning WBC welterweight champion. He is also boxing’s biggest draw and the highest-paid fighter today.

Mayweather has yet to choose his opponent for May 3 but had mentioned Khan, Maidana and Pacquiao. To him, boxing is business and he will choose wisely.

If he really wants business, Mayweather should go for Pacquiao. But to the undefeated American it may not be the wise choice.

To make sure he keeps the inside track, Khan has already signed a contract to fight Mayweather.

Whether it’s an official contract offer from Mayweather or just a piece of paper, Khan wants Mayweather to know he’s ready to do the fight.

Khan lost two fights in a row to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia but won his last two over Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz.

Mayweather said he’d rather go for Khan, who’s two and two, than Pacquiao, who’s one and two.

Khan is an attractive fighter and if Mayweather opts to take on him, the fight should be easy to sell.

Khan can’t wait for Mayweather to put his name over the dotted line.

“I am the one who signed the contract. I’ve signed my part of the contract, they’ve not signed theirs,” Khan told Mail Online of the UK.

“If he wants to fight Amir Khan then he should sign it,” said Khan, who scored a unanimous decision over Maidana in 2010.

Maidana got into the mix following a big win over the Adrian Broner a couple of weeks back.

“If he (Mayweather) wants to face someone I’ve beaten then so be it. He wants to fight someone who makes him look good but styles make fights,” said Khan.

Then the boxer who used to train with Pacquiao said he’s also willing, able and ready to face the Filipino star.

“I’d fight Manny. Look, it’s business. We are friends and respect each other, but I would definitely consider the fight, and I am sure he would too,” Khan told Mail Online.

He said he’d fight Pacquiao in the deserts of Dubai.

“To bring it to Dubai, too, that would be huge. I am ready for whatever. Have I ever turned down a fight? Never. I fight whoever is put in front of me.”
