The Lady Bullpups, who lost 6-foot-4 Jaja Santiago who moved up to college ranks, went perfect in five matches to remain on course for their first-ever championship.
NU also swept all of its five boys matches by downing reigning nine-time champion University of the East, 12-25, 25-21, 26-24, 26-24.
University of Santo Tomas, a former girls’ division power, finished second in the first round with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 triumph over tournament newcomer Adamson.
The Junior Tigresses tote a 4-1 record, behind the Lady Bullpups, while the Junior Lady Spikers, who lost former MVP Kim Dy who went to the Taft-based squad, placed third with a 3-2 slate.
The winningest boys squad with 12 titles, the Junior Warriors now has a 4-1 slate.
Ateneo, meanwhile, downed La Salle-Zobel, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22, for its third win in five outings in third spot.
Action in second round begins on Jan. 11 after a three-week break.
