Park bags Winds Formula overall plum

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Zebra Racing Team’s Sung Joon Park came through with a pair of runner-up finishes in the season finale to humble the fancied Japanese bets and capture the overall championship in the Winds Formula Philippine series at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.

Park, a homegrown talent who honed his racing skills in the national karting series, wrapped up the season with a total of 44 points for a three-point victory over Japanese Teruki Yoshida, who tallied 41 points. He thus became the first non-Japanese winner of Winds Formula Philippines.

“This is not just a victory for the Zebra Racing Team but for the Philippines as we proved Filipino racers are among the best in the world,” said Park. “The Philippines has been my second motherland and this trophy is my way of giving back to the country that has provided the opportunities to live up to my dreams and supported me all throughout my racing career.”

Park’s campaign was backed by Zebra Racing Team’s corporate partners Winds Formula Philippines, Fastem, Petronas Lubricants Philippines, Monster Energy Philippines, C! Magazine, Kotse.com, AutoIndustrya.com, Pinoy Loves Wheels, Team A, Ozawa JDM, Rally Parts, Chi Shirts and Anime Sky.

As Yoshida dominated the first race, Park put up a tougher stand in the second race, dicing for the lead several times, leading to a neck-and-neck battle en route to posting the same best times of 1:47.20.
