Ramos-Yee thwarts rivals, prevails by 1
MANILA, Philippines - R Ramos and Miggy Yee wavered in aggregate format with a 159 but hung tough to beat Jonar Austria and GJ Katigbak by one and clinch the NGAP’s National Doubles Championship crown at Eastridge in Binangonan, Rizal yesterday.
Ramos fumbled with a six-over 78 and Yee skied with an 81, but their 159 and 305 total proved enough to hold off the Austria-Katigbak pair for the centerpiece title in the event presented by the MVP Sports Foundation.
Austria shot the day’s best three-over 75 but Katigbak could only match Yee’s output for a 156 and a 306 while Junnel Roxas and Tonton Asistio rallied to finish third at 311 after a 157.
Asistio, the former Phl team spearhead, assembled a 78, while Roxas made a 79.
Jed Dy-Ryan Monsalve also scored a wire-to-wire triumph in Group II, closing out with a 169 after an 85 and 84, respectively, for a 333, two shots ahead of Carlo Quimson and Marco Olives, who finished second at 335 after a 168.
Quimson and Olives, in third after the first two rounds of alternate shot and best-ball play, respectively, tumbled with a 90 and 78 with Lanz Uy and Ryan Monsalve checking in third another stroke behind after a 169.
Carlos and Carlo Packing, who trailed Dy-Monsalve after the first two days, shot an 81 and 92, respectively, and wound up fourth after a 173 and 339.
Erwin Temena-Rading Decepida pooled a 166 for 321 as it posted a nine-shot romp over Marius Banatao-Norman Dela Peña in the Mid-Amateur division.
Decepida carded an 80, while Temena scored an 86. Dela Peña shot an 82 and Banatao turned in an 87.
