The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender Mark Muñoz has joined hands with the Filipino-American community for a fund-raiser in the US next year for the benefit of typhoon Yolanda survivors.

Muñoz, known as “The Filipino Wrecking Machine,” pledged to donate all the proceeds of the Mark Muñoz Wrestling Seminar dubbed as a “Fundraiser for Typhoon Yolanda” on Jan. 11, 2014 at 401 California Ave., San Francisco, California.

“The talk about super typhoon Yolanda in the media has decreased, but the rebuilding efforts in the Visayas is ongoing,” said Muñoz on his official website markmuñozmma.com yesterday.

“This holiday season I am giving all the proceeds of my Jan 11 MMA Wrestling seminar and event shirt to Typhoon Yolanda survivors.

“Like me, you too can help families in the Philippines rebuild,” he added.

The site indicated that the MMA wrestling seminar is set from 9 to 11 a.m., which is worth $80, while the wrestling (K-college) session is from 1 to 4 p.m., which will cost participants $40.

All will come with a free autograph and photo opportunity.

The one-day charity event is supported by Lunarpages, Xyience, Pop Chips, Musclemaker Grill, Treasure Island Event Venue, Reign Training Center, Giographix and Team Muñoz.

Muñoz joined several popular Fil-Am sports personalities, including Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra who have spearheaded a fund-raising drive to help the Yolanda survivors.

Muñoz, who has also conducted clinics in the country, is hoping to bounce back from his recent loss in his quest to become the first Filipino champion in the UFC.
