Ramos, Yee pull away, up by four

MANILA, Philippines - AR Ramos and Miggy Yee combined for a three-under 69 under the best ball format to storm to a four-shot lead over two other teams in the second round of the NGAP’s National Doubles Championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at the Eastridge Golf Club in Binangonan, Rizal yesterday.

The Ramos-Yee pair hit three of its five birdies in the last nine holes to pool a 36-hole aggregate of 146, counting their 77 in the alternate shot format in the first round of the three-day tournament.

That was four strokes up on Jonar Austria and GJ Katigbak, who pooled a 71, and brothers Basti and Santi Lorenzo, who matched par 72, heading to the final round to be played under the aggregate format.

Roxas and Tonlits Asistio actually matched Ramos-Yee’s 69 but still stood eight shots behind at 154 after a horrendous opening round 85.

Raymart Tolentino and Kristopher Arevalo limped with a 76 for a 155.

Jed Dy and Ryan Monsalve also remained in the Group II lead despite an 81. The duo turned in a woeful 43 at the front for a 164 tally, just two shots ahead of the Carlos Packing-Carlo Packing team, which moved with two at 166 after a 79.

Carlo Quimson and Marco Olives were another shot back at 167 after a 79 with Lanz Uy and Ryan Monsalve firing a 71 for a 168.

The Erwin Temena-Rading Decepida pair carded a 75 for a 155 as it posted a six-shot lead over the Marius Banatao-Norman Dela Peña tandem, which shot a 73 for a 161, in the Mid-Am division of the event forming part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour and backed by Pancake House, Golf Depot and Pacsports.
