Fernando-Ilagan dominates PGAP pro-am
MANILA, Philippines - Anthony Fernando and amateur partner Mark Ilagan combined for a 213 to nip the Israel Bisera-Harmie Constantino tandem by one and capture the PGAP (Professional Golfers’ Association of the Phils.) pro-am golf tournament crown at the Veterans Golf Club in Quezon City yesterday.
Fernando, a regular campaigner on the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour, and Ilagan, a 5-handicapper, rallied with a 136 in the combined aggregate format in the final round to score the come-from-behind victory in the two-day tournament sponsored by Albargle Japan Golf of Ryosuke Akuzawa, MINPPY Japanese Hotpot of Hiroshi Takeda and PGAP president Jun Bustamante.
Fernando and Ilagan struggled with a 77 in the alternate-shot format in the first day but struck back in the final round to pocket the top purse of P35,000.
Bisera and Constantino, a jungolfer, shared the lead with Robert Pactolerin and Noli Singca with 73s in the one-ball, twosome format, but hobbled with a 141 in the aggregate to settle for second at 214 worth P25,000.
Noli Kempis and August Cruz shot 78-138 to place third at 216 while Al Cruz and Chez Roque had a 79-139 to finish tied for fourth at 218 with Nilo Salahog and Arman Enema, who carded a 77-141.
Jun Bernis teamed up with Carlo Quimson to card an 80 and 139 for 219 as they shared sixth place with JR Casas and Kevin Saclot, who had a 74-145, while the Aging Gabo-Fred Salonga (79-142), Roger Diocares-Ricky delos Santos (74-147) and Pactolerin-Singca (73-148) tandems all wound up with 221s.
