Miranda pockets karter of year honors
MANILA, Philippines - Daniel Miranda of Cebuana Lhuillier bucked a fourth place finish in the final race then nipped Bobby Domingo in the tiebreak to capture the 2013 Karter of the Year honors in the Coca-Cola Karting Super Series at the Carmona racetrack in Cavite recently.
Miranda, who checked in sixth in the Qualifying Heat and the Pre-Final ended up fourth in the final race and finished tied with KF2 runner-up Domingo of Formula-E Racing with 160 points. But the former took the coveted plum with more first place wins.
“I was not expecting it already, everything didn’t go as planned. Good thing, my wish came true,†said Miranda, who also became the second Cebuano to bag the highest karting award.
Sharing the limelight was Raymond Cudala of Tough Gear Racing who emerged the 2013 Junior Karter of the Year after clinching the KF3 plum and the ROK Junior Runner-up crown of the National Karting Series.
Christopher Joseph “CJ†Tsui also swept the Qualifying Heat, the Pre-Final and Final races to bag the ROK Senior crown of the final leg and the Overall Championship belt of the National Karting Series.
Seaoil-DC karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera clinched three titles in a single season – the ROK Junior, ROK Clubman and the Formula SL Novice crowns.
Lady Karter Yvana Carangan of AUTS Racing pulled the big win in the Final race to formally claim the Formula SL Expert crown over teammate Carl Luig and Allison Julian of One Racing
Equally exciting was the SQ race where Petronas-backed Raul Barretto ruled the SQ Expert class over Takehiko Kuchikata and Jerry Choi. Daryl Brady copped the SQ Novice title over Giuseppe Andrighetto and Rhett Holganza while Kuchikata topped the SQ Veteran division over Choi and Andrighetto.
