Elorde grandson tests mettle vs Thai

MANILA, Philippines - Juan Miguel Elorde, grandson of the great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde and younger brother of WBO Asia Pacific superfeatherweight champion Juan Martin Elorde, slugs it out with Thai Ngaotawan Sithsaithong in tomorrow’s blockbuster fight card at the Flash Grand ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat Road, Parañaque.

Mig, also known as “The Boss”, vowed to go for a knockout in his 10-round duel at 128 lbs. with Sithsaithong, who fought Dave Peñalosa, son of Dodie Boy Peñalosa, in Cotai Arena Macau last July.

Elorde’s cousin JK Elorde also gets to see action in his second pro stint, facing off with Rolly de Tomas of Paco, Manila in four rounds at 126 lbs. JK, a two-time gold medalist in the National Capital Region amateur boxing tournament, made a smashing debut last April with a TKO win.

In the main event, veterans Dennis Laurente and Jonathan Taconing clash with Thais Khomkaew Sithsaithong and Namphol Sithsaithong, respectively, with both local fighters out to improve on their World Boxing Council rankings.

Laurente is eyeing a return to the top 10 while Taconing, now rated No. 3 in the lightflyweight division, is looking to fight for the WBC crown against champion Adrian Hernandez anytime next year.
