Sinag Pilipinas crushes host Myanmar, keeps clean slate
MANILA, Philippines -- Sinag Pilipinas continued to display superb form as it bamboozled host Myanmar, 118-43, Thursday to keep its perfect record in the 27th Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball tournament at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium in Naypyitaw.
After the one-day break, the Nationals came out fresh and ran away early with a 10-0 blitz on their way to their most lopsided win in three starts.
The win moved the Filipinos in a tie with Thailand with an immaculate 3-0 win-loss card.
Former San Sebastian Stag Ronald Pascual led the way with 20 points while FEU's Mac Belo continued his stellar play with 17 markers. The frontline duo pumped in 11 points each in the first half as the Philippines sat on a 35-point cushion, 62-27.
Three more Sinag players also hit double figure scoring with UST's Kevin Ferrer finishing with 13 points while Ateneo's Kiefer Ravena and former NU star Bobby Ray Parks with 10 apiece.
Sinag Pilipinas coach Jong Uichico had the luxury again of using naturalized center Marcus Douthit sparingly. Douthit, who vowed to give Php500 for each point and rebound throughout the tournament for the super typhoon Yolanda victims, wound up with five points in only 17 minutes.
Sinag Pilipinas and Thailand part ways on Friday in the battle of the unbeaten teams.
