Steady Chuas rule 17th Founders Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Aaron and Barton Chua held their poise under the grinding final day pressure to win the overall title even as Raymund Sangil and Marty Ilagan claimed the low gross plum in the recent 17th Founders Cup Invitational, the member-guest tournament of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Playing in the Group C division, the Chuas broke out of a tight race for the crown after an 85 in the aggregate format at the Palmer course with a best-ball net of 49 at the Player course to finish with 134 for a close two-point win over the pair of Eric Borromeo and Rusty Bayani in the four-day event backed by Globe Telecom, Banco de Oro-CLG/VISA, Mizuno, Sta. Lucia Realty, Kulinarya Global Corp., CATS Motors/Mercedes-Benz and Mazda as major sponsors.

Sangil and Ilagan clinched the low gross plum with an even-par 36 in Round 2 for 102, edging first day co-leaders Christine Popp and Brixton Aw just by two points.

Sharing the spotlight as division champions in the event that had Asiana Airlines, Regent Travel Corp., Security Bank Corp., Shakey’s Pizza, U-Freight Phils. and The Turf Co as premium hole sponsors were Paul Tugade and Joaquin Rosero in Class A, Borromeo and Bayani in Class B, Cesar Rubin and Ronnie Caballero in Class C and Ronald Castro and Bernard Deriquito in Class D. The sponsors division title went to junior aces Keanu Jahns and Andres Mamaril.
