Pasay marks 150th year with charity run

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The City of Pasay celebrates its 150th founding anniversary by holding a run for a cause for the victims of super-typhoon Yolanda.

Dubbed “Be a Santa for the orphans of Yolanda”, the meet will be held on Dec. 14 at the Astrodome. Starting gun is at 6 a.m., but call time starts at 4:30 a.m.

Major beneficiaries of the fun run are the affected families of the recent natural calamity that hit the Eastern Visayas region currently being sheltered at the Villamor Airbase Tent City under the care of the Pasay City Hall.

A total of five categories are at stake in the fun run being held in cooperation with Toby’s Sports and Roost, namely, 10K, 5K, 3K, 1K, and Santa sprint for kids.

“It’s a one of a kind fun run that is relevant to this time,” said Christine Majadillas, brand manager for International Brands, Toby’s Sports, and Urban Athletics during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate on Tuesday.

Jonathan Malaya, public relations and communications manager of the City of Pasay, who also appeared in the session presented by Shakey’s and Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation along with Atty. Paul Vega, Pasay City officer-in-charge for housing administration, said more than 2,000 people from the Visayas had so far been served food and provided temporary shelter at the Tent City.

“And we could even help more if we’ll be able to raise funds during the fun run,” Malaya added.

Registration fee is P750 for individual, P650 for couple, and P500 for group of five. Interested parties can register at the first floor of the Pasay City Hall, and in special branches of Toby’s Sports and Runnr.

Participating runners who are residents of Pasay City however, will be free of charge.

The top three winners in every category will receive running shoes and gift packs.
