Caidic, Lim, Fernandez in 3-point shootout for Yolanda victims

Champions for A Cause, a basketball benefit game for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda slated this coming Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, will not only pit the respective title holders of the NCAA and the UAAP but also some legends.

A side event of the San Beda-La Salle game is a three-on-three 3-point shootout with the team of JVee Casio, Jeron Teng and Allan Caidic taking on the side of Frankie Lim, Almond Vosotros and Boyet Fernandez during halftime.

Caidic, currently an assistant coach with La Salle, was not only a scoring sensation during his days with the UE Warriors but also in the PBA where he holds the record for the most number of triples in a game (17) and a season (160). Both records were set while he was playing for Presto Tivoli in 1990. “The Triggerman” as Caidic was known played for 13 years in the pro league before moving over to the bench as a coach with Ginebra.

Frankie Lim starred with San Beda in the late 1970s but also coached them to four titles in the new millennium. Lim was also the starting point guard for the Alaska Milkmen in the 1980s playing 15 years in the pros.

Fernandez, the current head coach of San Beda and N-Lex in the D-League, played for Sta. Lucia, Alaska, Pop Cola and Purefoods in a 12-year PBA career where he made his mark as a playmaker and an outside threat.

Each team will be given 25 balls to shoot. For every shot a player makes, Filoil Flying V will donate P5,000 to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda on top of the proceeds from the game.

La Salle great Lim Eng Beng was supposed to participate in the shootout but was disallowed by doctors to suit up due to health considerations.

Tickets are now available at Ticketnet and the athletic departments of San Beda and La Salle.
