Joson foils Olea, cops Southwoods srs plum

MANILA, Philippines - Tomas Joson III carded a gross 77 for a net 67 as he nipped last trimester’s champion Raul Olea by one to capture the Class A crown in the Seniors Trimester Birthday Bash and Christmas golf tournament sponsored by Brainmaster at the Manila Southwoods’ Masters course recently.

Olea, a 9-handicapper, also turned in a gross 77 but settled for runner-up honors with a net 68 in a down-to-the-wire battle for top honors in the premier division of the 18-hole tournament sponsored by Brainmaster for Senior Moments.

Lino Ceriola came away with a net 60 from a gross 78 as he dominated Johnny Violeta, who had a gross 81 for a net 64, to annex the Class B plum while Ed Pozon took the Class C diadem with a net 65 from a gross 92, beating Jojo Lee, who ended up with a net 67 from a similar gross of 92, by two.

Bernie Bernardo made a net 65 from a gross 90 to post a four-shot win over Jose Cedo, who had a gross 91 for a net 69, in the Super Seniors category of the event organized by the Southwoods Seniors Chapter headed by outgoing president Jose Cedo and newly elected president Paco Gonzalez, also the event’s tournament chairman.

Senen Orosa hit his tee shot on No. 3 to within four feet to share the nearest to the pin honors with Manny Santander, who hit it within a foot on No. 17.
