Saver’s holds off BCC, tops Fil Flight A

BAGUIO, Philippines - – Saver’s Comclark wavered with a 76 but held on to foil Baguio Country Club by three and capture the Fil Flight A crown in the 64th San Miguel Fil-Am Seniors golf tournament at the BCC course here Thursday.

Vivencio Pecson carded 22 Molave points while Rene Mangio, Noel Yamzon and Senen Quiambao added 19, 18 and 17 markers, respectively, as Saver’s Comclark, which pooled an 88 in the third round, also at BCC, wound up with a four-day total of 358.

The hosts failed to defend their turf as they finished with a 79 for a 355 with Bong de Guzman and Philip del Carmen each scoring 22 points and Sam Diciano and Jun Basabica chipping in 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Saver’s Comclark’s Willy Valencia and BCC’s Benjie Favis turned in 17 and 16 points, respectively, and didn’t figure in the five-to-play, four-to-count format event backed by title sponsor San Miguel Corp. and presented by Toyota.

Villamor, led by Art Alabanza’s 26 markers, ended up third at 342 after a 78 while Camp Aguinaldo, with Caloy Inigo and Herminnio Salivio each shooting a 21, assembled an 80 for fourth at 330.

Golf F/Veterans Team shot the day’s best score of 86 behind Domingo Manuel and Danny Gonzales’ 26 points each, totaled 327 while Villa Cacho shot a 318 after an 82 followed by Okinawa Golf Team (77-297) and BCC Team 2 (51-265).

BCC, meanwhile, drew 26 points from Benito Ang while Billy Dulay, Nelson Tandoc and Ben Liclican backed him up with 24, 21 and 20 points, respectively, as it edged Guam Seniors, 328-327, for the Am Flight A title.

American Joe Moore came away with 27 points while Ed Briones shot a 26, Henry Leon Guerrero added 22 and Andy Leon Guerrero tossed in a 17 for Guam Seniors, which pooled a 92 but fell short by one.

Christian Motor made a 76 while Pines Golf Club of California had an 85 as they finished tied at third at 311 followed by the Federation of Phl Senior Golfers (84-310), P.R. Bank-Isabela (76-303), Golf F/Veterans (70-262) and Paradise Greens Golf Club of California (66-259).

Fil Am Golf of Florida ran away with the Senior Fil-B diadem with a 306 after a 78, winning by 32 points over TNT Golf Team, which had a 274 after a 78, while Squares & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija came in third at 270 after a 60.

Fil Hawaiian Golf Club took the Am-B plum with a 312 after a 76 with Guam Seals finishing at distant second at 272 after a 63 and The Cliffs Golf & Beach Club hobbling at third at 245 after a 60.

Other winners were Summer Capital Golf Club-North (94-390, Fil-F), VFW Post 124 Team I (98-325, Am-F), NBI Golf Team 157-I (84-352, Fil-G), Square & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija 2 (73-318, Am-G), Isabela Golf Club-CR Domingo Const. Inc. (72-332, Fil-H) and J.J. Nice Day (79-284, Am-H).

The other backers of the event were Wilson, Rudy Project, Empire Golf, Megafiber, Pacsports, BCC, CJH Manor, Poro Point Thunderbird Resorts, Forest Lodge, Le Chef, Rizgolf, CJH Dev. Co., John Hay Coffee Services, University of Baguio, Alveo, North Luzon Expressway, The Residences at Brent, GPS Tracker and GMJ Constructors.
