La Salle, San Beda alumni to chip in P1K per point in benefit game for Yolanda victims

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Alumni of both reigning collegiate champions La Salle of the UAAP and San Beda of the NCAA will donate P1,000 for every point their respective teams score in their benefit game dubbed "Champions for a Cause" set on Dec. 7 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

"Yes, the La Salle alumni will donate P1,000 for every point the team scored in that game for a cause, I know the alumni of San Beda will do that too," said Virgil Villavicencio, a former La Salle alumnus and senior basketball team coach who is now with the Manny V. Pangilinan group of companies.

Organized by the Filoil Flying V Sports headed by Mandy Ochoa, the one-day event, set at 12 noon, is being done to generate funds for victims and survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, which devastated parts of the Visayas a couple of weeks back.

"All the proceeds of this event will be used for the sole purpose of helping relief efforts to victims of Yolanda," said Ochoa in Tuesday's briefer at the Kamayan-Edsa.

Former La Salle star Lim Eng Beng and ex-San Beda hotshot Frankie Lim also showed support to the event by gracing the presser and both agreed the La Salle-San Beda rivalry brings back memories when the Archers were still with the NCAA.

Champions for a Cause is a joint effort by the MVP Sports Foundation and Filoil Flying V Sports with the match being televised live by TV5.

Tickets are pegged at P1,000 for patron seats and P500, P300, P150 and P20 for lower box, upper A, upper B and bleacher seats, respectively.
