MANILA, Philippines - Following Juggling Act’s masterful swan song in the Philracom Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. Cup at the Metroturf racetrack in Malvar, Batangas last Sunday, businessman-sportsman Herminio “Hermie†Esguerra did a similar class act off the track as he pledged to donate the champion’s hefty P1.2-million prize to aid the victims of typhoon Yolanda.
Esguerra’s decision to donate Juggling Act’s winnings came straight away after the champion 7-year-old galloper crossed the payoff line to post a huge upset victory over heavy favorite Crucis in the year’s most-coveted race for imported thoroughbreds.
“Although I was really overjoyed with Juggling Act’s come-from-behind win, I cannot in all honesty celebrate the huge victory knowing that many of our countrymen in the Visayas are still suffering from the devastation wrought by super typhoon Yolanda,†explained Esguerra, the country’s foremost horse owner and breeder who campaigned former track greats Wind Blown and Real Spicy, among other racing champions.
Esguerra will be coursing his donation to the typhoon victims through the Rotary Club of Manila.
