Shakey’s All Star Weekend under way

MANILA, Philippines - The Shakey’s V-League All Star Weekend powered by Smart unwraps today with a day-long camp among players and enthusiasts nine-to-17 years old with the All Star game set tomorrow at The Arena in San Juan.

All the players seeing action in the All Star game will be sharing their expertise on various aspects of the game, including digging, setting, spiking and serving.

The camp, featuring 80 participants, will be divided into two sessions with the first set at 9 a.m. and the next session at 1 p.m.

Listup starts at 7 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis with fee pegged at P200 per session, inclusive of a camp shirt.

A mini-tournament among campers will be held after the clinics.

The All Star Weekend highlights the Shakey’s V-League milestone 10th season with the event also serving as a fund-raiser for victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

The fund drive is spearheaded by the sponsoring Shakey’s and Smart Communications and the organizing Sports Vision Management Group, Inc.

Rachel Ann Daquis, Aiza Maizo, Dindin Santiago and Jovelyn Gonzaga will be among those who will conduct the clinics which is expected to draw a banner crowd from the top junior and aspiring players of various schools.

 Daquis and Maizo will also headline Team Shakey’s in tomorrow’s All Star Game while Santiago and Gonzaga will banner Team Smart event backed by long-time supporters Mikasa and Accel.

Others joining the clinics are Suzanne Roces, Angeli Tabaquero, Mary Jean Balse, Michelle Carolino, Angelique Dionela, Rubie de Leon, Maureen Penetrante-Ouano and Tina Salak of Team Shakey’s and Team Smart’s Maru Banaticla, Jamenea Ferrer, Jennelyn Reyes, Gretchel Soltones, Fille Cainglet, Pau Soriano, Alyssa Valdez and Charo Soriano.

Nestor Pamilar will handle the Shakey’s squad while Smart will be mentored by Roger Gorayeb.

Tickets for today’s clinics are pegged at P50 (free seating) and will be available at The Arena gates starting at 7 a.m. while tickets for tomorrow’s event will be P350 (ringside), P250 (lower box) and P100 (upper box) for the whole day affair and P300, P200 and P50, respectively, for the afternoon activities.

Meanwhile, the All Star game will be spiced up with the participation of GMA talents, including Bettina Carlos, LJ Reyes, Lala Roque, Vonne Aquino, Raffy Tima and Dano Tingcungco.
