Shakey’s All Star to benefit Yolanda victims

MANILA, Philippines - The first Shakey’s All Star Weekend powered by Smart firing off this weekend at The Arena in San Juan will not only be a gathering of the league’s luminaries and rising stars but will also serve as a fund-raiser for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

The sponsoring Shakey’s and organizing Sports Vision have earmarked a considerable amount to spearhead the fund drive with proceeds from the two-day event, set Nov. 16-17, to benefit the victims of one of the worst storms on record that swept through Central Visayas last Friday.

“Shakey’s and Sports Vision are one in sympathizing with the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda and we’re doing our share to help raise some funds tor them through the All Star,” said Sports Vision president Ricky Palou.

The Shakey’s All Star will cap a milestone 10th season for the country’s premier women’s volley league with Team Shakey’s to be composed of Mary Jean Balse, Michelle Carolino, Rachel Ann Daquis, Aiza Maizo, Suzanne Roces, Angeli Tabaquero, Angelique Dionela, Rubie de Leon, Maureen Penetrante-Ouano and Tina Salak with Nestor Pamilar as coach.

Roger Gorayeb will handle the Smart team to be led by Dindin Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Maru Banaticla, Jamenea Ferrer, Jennelyn Reyes, Gretchel Soltones, Fille Cainglet, Pau Soriano, Alyssa Valdez and Charo Soriano.

“Shakey’s is always ready to help, particularly in this calamity that severely hit our brothers and sisters in Central Visayas,” said Shakey’s executive vice president and COO Vic Gregorio. “Through the All Star staging, we hope to raise some funds to help the nationwide fund-drive and relief efforts.”
