Coseteng eyes Yokohama title
MANILA, Philippines - The Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships holds its sixth and final leg this Sunday with the country’s leading circuit drivers gearing up for showdown at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Multi-titled champion Jody Coseteng of Eagle Cement Racing zeroes in on the coveted GT Driver of the Year plum of this event after sweeping the last two legs for a total of 200 points and a whopping 58-point lead over Peter Kim of S-Oil Racing and Taysan Batangas Mayor Dondon Portugal, who both pooled 142 points.
Coseteng actually was the pioneer recipient of the Grand Touring Driver of the Year when the Golden Wheel Awards was launched in 2004 and held it for four straight years until 2007.
Kim and Willie Torres failed to finish the last race due to damaged cars and Kim is a doubtful starter Sunday, Portugal is tipped to claim the runner-up honors in the event serving as part of the 2013 Petronas Philippine Motorsports Championships Season sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.
