CKSC scores breakthru win

MANILA, Philippines - Chiang Kai Shek College demolished many-time champion San Beda, 74-49, to capture the 2013 BEST Center-organized SBP Twin Basketball Championships for the first time at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym in Quezon City recently.

Drawing stellar performances from JV Gallego, Fran Yu, Franzcis Bait and Dominique Cuevas, the Blue Dragons dominated the Red Cubs in the Milo-sponsored event that drew the 22 top NCR high school teams.

With the win, the Blue Dragons, the winningest squad in the Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball League, will represent NCR in the finals slated in Pampanga next month.

The title win was doubly significant for CKSC, which beat a team long considered the tournament’s most successful squad with 20 NCAA titles.

Yu bagged the Finals MVP honors while Gallego was named tournament MVP. Gallego also played a key role in the team’s 2013 FCAAF Championships.

School officials and supporters like Big Chill and Toyota Commonwealth celebrated the team’s latest title win which coach Goldwyn Monteverde credited to his wards’ determination.
