Bautista keeps TRS Retro crown

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Bryan Bautista flashed top form and dominated the field to retain the 2013 TRS-Bridgestone Retro Race crown at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.

Bautista pulled off a sweep of the two races over Japs Javier with his classic Volkswagen to rule the Open Race of the event that featured vintage Mini, Volkswagen, Datsun, Toyota and Ford cars.

Bautista ruled Race 1 in 15 minutes and 30.592 seconds, 21 seconds ahead of Javier, who put up a gallant fight in Race 2 but fell short as finished just 1.148 seconds behind Bautista, also with his Volkswagen. Bautista topped the race in 17:40.116.

Jun Ruiz also pulled a sweep of the 1601-2500cc. class aboard his 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle, beating Reuven Loscon’s Volkswagen while Arvil Gervacio also reigned in his Mini-Cooper, defeating Rudy Bunag and his Mini-Cooper and Maman Salada and his 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle in the 1600cc Modified division of the event which served as part of the TRS Raceday powered by Bridgestone, Standard Insurance, PUMA, Coke Zero, Acer, OMP, C!Magazine, Oakley, Aguila Auto Glass, Go Pro, Lifeline Ambulance, Karate Kid, Toptul, Elig, Bellevue, Rota, Brembo and Has Travel.

Dexter Daquigan, also in a 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle, also came away with a sweep in the 1600cc Stock, taking Race 1 over Mike Tuason and his Ford Escort and George Federijo and his 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle, and later topping Race 2 over Federijo and Aris Ilagan.

Nino Garcia and Raul Dungog also scored a pair of sweeps in their respective classes in the TRS Time Attack with the former dominating the Time Attack Open race with a victory in Race 1 over Christian Lopez and in Race 2 against Lopez and Hanz Gerard Wang.

Dungog clinched the Time Attack 150hp crown with a win in Race 1 over Mark Cupino and Elwyn Narvaez and another romp in Race 2 over Francis Arjonillo and Michael Roa.
