Pacman doesn’t care whom Bradley wants
MANILA, Philippines - Days before he faced Juan Manuel Marquez, undefeated American Timothy Bradley said he’s longing for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
Yesterday, after outpointing the aging and whining fighter from Mexico, Bradley said he wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. instead.
“I want the Money Team. If a Mayweather fight can materialize, I’d love it,†said Bradley, now 31-0 with 12 knockouts, in a post-fight press conference.
Pacquiao isn’t listening.
In fact, the Filipino champion, who’s getting ready for a Nov. 24 bout with Brandon Rios in Macau, didn’t even watch the Bradley-Marquez show.
Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, said the fighting congressman was in a church service as the 12-round fight took place at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Pacquiao doesn’t watch fights unless he really needs to. When Mayweather took on Canelo Alvarez last month, he was also at the church.
Besides, Koncz told The STAR right after the fight that Pacquiao is not interested in either Bradley or Marquez.
That’s regardless of yesterday’s result.
“It was a boring fight just as I predicted when the fight was announced,†Koncz told The STAR.
“And we are not interested in fighting either of them as they declined our offers prior to (us) agreeing to fight Rios,†he said.
Pacquiao lost to Bradley in June and to Marquez in December last year, and had offered both boxers a rematch for $6 million and $12 million, respectively.
Both offers were turned down.
Bradley said a rematch with Pacquiao can wait another day while Marquez said there’s really no point doing a fifth fight with Pacquiao.
Instead, Bradley and Marquez fought each other for $4.1 million and $6 million, respectively.
If Pacquiao gets past Rios, he will look at others to fight next year.
“There are many other boxers worthy of a chance to fight Manny,†said Koncz without naming them.
Marquez claimed he was robbed of a victory against Bradley the way he was robbed thrice against Pacquiao.
Marquez talked of retirement after yesterday’s loss but his lawyer was quick to say it’s premature.
Bradley said he wants Mayweather.
But that fight is easier said than done. There are just too many barriers. Bradley is with Top Rank which is with HBO while Mayweather is with Golden Boy which is with Showtime.
Bradley may end up knocking on Pacquiao’s door.
That’s if Pacquiao beats Rios.
