Phl vies in HK Open memory tiff
MANILA, Philippines - Team Philippines sets out as one of the favorites in the first Hong Kong Open Memory Championship slated Sept. 28-29 in Kowloon.
Twelve-year-old Jamyla Lambunao, a Grade 7 student at St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina, heads the Phl contingent in the tournament which features 10 events. Lambunao, who finished runner-up in last year’s World Memory Championship in London, will vie in the kids division.
Bannering the country’s campaign in the juniors category are Kian Christopher Aquino, Robert Bryan Yee and Rhojani Joy Nasiad while Mark Anthony Castañeda and Erwin Balines lead the bid in the adult class.
Other members of the team are Anne Bernadette Bonita, Abbygale Monderin, Axelyancy Cowan Tabernilla, Ydda Graceille Mae Habab and Robert Racasa, also the team coach and head of delegation.
The event, which drew 109 participants from 10 countries, will use the World Memory Sports Council (WMSC) national standard of competitions, including names and faces (5 minutes), binary numbers (5 minutes), random numbers (15 minutes), abstract images (15 minutes), speed numbers (5 minutes), historic/future dates (5 minutes), playing cards (10 minutes), random words (5 minutes), spoken numbers (100 seconds and 300 seconds) and Speed Cards.
