Defense is Ginebra's main problem says Caguioa

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Brgy. Ginebra Kings are back in familiar territory.

“It’s always the hard way,” Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa told Philstar.com after the Kings lost, 113-106, in overtime to GlobalPort on Friday night.

The loss put the Kings in a much tougher situation to repeat or even surpass their Finals run last conference.

But despite the loss, the Kings are still in control of their destiny.

The only chance that the Kings will get eliminated is if the Air21 wins over Alaska and Talk n Text beat them by 22 points in the final playdate of the elimination round on Sunday.

The Kings will figure in a knockout playoff game for the eight spot against the Texters if Air21 hurdles Alaska and Talk n Text wins by less than 22 points.

The Kings could have safely advanced to the quarterfinals if they won Friday night’s game.

Caguioa pointed to their defensive woes as the main culprit.

“We should have won this game. We can’t give up that too many points. We’re not getting stops.  Parang hirap kami especially on transition defense where we struggle. The main thing is defense,” Caguioa said.

The Kings have given up close to 102 points a game in their five losses.

“We just have to fight, our backs against the wall again,” Caguioa said.

“The sixth man is always there. It’s up to us to do our part. It’s going to be tough but let’s see what type of Ginebra is going to show up this Sunday.”
