Pangasinan holds chessfest
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – A series of chess clinics will be held starting today with around 300 youngsters expected to participate in the third Gov. Amado T. Espino (GATE) Chess Clinic at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here.
Organized by the provincial government of Pangasinan under the leadership of Espino in coordination with the Pangasinan Chess League (PCL) led by Juan Vicente Sison, the two-day clinic aims to discover potential players on the grassroots level and develop their competitive skills.
The other clinic dates are set Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 5-6.
Modesto Operania, executive assistant III to the governor and provincial sports director, said registration is free and the participants’ performance and development will be evaluated in succeeding tournaments of the Pangasinan Chess Festival.
Among the tournaments in the chess festival are the third Pangasinan Age Group Chess Championships on Oct. 19-20, the Pangasinan Chess Championships on Nov. 9-10, and the fifth Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. Cup Open chess tournament on Dec. 21-22.
