Dumaguete stages Palawan tennis today

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Age-groupers in Dumaguete get the chance to showcase their wares and chase ranking points as they vie in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala tennis tournament presented by Babolat at the Praxevilla and Silliman Tennis clubs starting today.

The four-day tournament, serving as the 17th leg of the nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat and sanctioned by Philta, has lured a big field, guaranteeing a spirited battle for top honors in nine events.

In fact, Dr. Nick Uypitching, president of Praxevilla Tennis Club, has invited youngsters from La Carlota, Bacolod, Bais, Bayawan City and Bohol and waived the registration fee to give players a chance to experience playing in a ranking tournament.

“This is our way of helping promote the sport and at the same time give our players a venue where they could hone their talent and skills,” said Uypitching.

For details, contact Philta referee Bobby Mangunay at 0915-4046464. Events on tap are the 10-unisex, and the boys and girls’ 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U categories.

“Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat have been in the forefront of tennis development for years and we will continue providing our youth top-notch tournaments like this,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro. “This tournament will surely inspire our young players to achieve a higher level of play.”

The nationwide age-group circuit also serves as the regional tournament program for children put up to address the need for a grassroots tennis centered on values formation, Technosports president Guillermo Nocom said.
