MANILA, Philippines - Cyna Rodriguez hopes to re-display the form that netted her an eight-shot romp at Eagle Ridge as she heads the field in this week’s ICTSI Wack Wack Ladies Philippine Golf Tour at WW’s West course.
Rodriguez celebrated her pro debut with a smashing victory over Jayvie Agojo two weeks ago, posting the only under-par total of four-under 212 in the 54-hole championship which served as the third leg of the inaugural five-stage circuit.
But she faces a different kind of challenge at Wack Wack with two aces set to join the P500,000 event, sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. slated Sept. 10-12.
Agojo, for one, has vowed to bounce back strong and make a strong bid for a first-ever pro crown after finishing fifth both at The Country Club and Canlubang legs and a runner-up finish the last time out.
Heidi Chua, the former Philippine Ladies Open winner, is also expected to figure prominently in the battle for the top P100,000 purse, the par-72 being her home course together with Tracy Que.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez wound up eighth in the 36-hole Sime Darby Malaysia Qualifier in Kuala Lumpur with rounds of 74-73 for a 147, four shots behind the 143s by Taiwanese Yu Hsin Chang and Pei Yun Chien, who took the two slots in the rich LPGA event next month.
Chihiro Ikeda ended up ninth with a 148 after a 75, Princess Superal carded a 73 for a 150 for 14th while Agojo had a 151 after a 75 for 15th.
Others who signed up for the LPGT event, backed by Nike Golf, Pacsports, Gatorade, Sharp and Custom Clubmakers, are Sarah Jane Ababa, Reb Bareng, Lina de Guzman, Apple Fudolin, Lovelynn Guioguio, Lucy Landicho, Barsy Leonen, Eva Miñoza and Marjorie Pulumbarit.
