LSGH, Ateneo golfers pull away in inter-school

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With playing conditions a lot better than the previous week, La Salle Greenhills and Ateneo grabbed the opportunity to pull away from their rivals in the Juniors and Midgets 1 divisions, respectively, of the 2013 ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championships at the Ayala Greenfields Golf and Leisure Club which hosted Week 4 of the competitions recently.

Luigi Guerrero fired 50 points, AR Ramos made 49 and Miggy Yee had 48 as LSGH made a big improvement from last week’s measly output to chalk up 148 for a two-round aggregate of 267. They were now 40 points ahead of Xavier, which had 129 for 227, and 41 up on La Salle Greenhills (130-226).

Ateneo, meanwhile, widened the lead to 36 points in Midgets 1 at the resumption of the tourney backed chiefly by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and also supported by the Pancake House Group, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Yellow Cab, McDonald’s and the Philippine Golf Foundation.

Carl Corpus, shooting 53, and Aidric Chan, making 49, again carried the scoring brunt for the Ateneans with Marc Corrales adding 44 for a 146-point total and a 300 aggregate, far ahead of the 264 of Learning Links which compiled 126 for 264.

The solid effort of Corpus made him the new leader in the Midgets 1 individual race, bumping off Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton from the top. Corpus had 105 while Alido did 43 for 98 with Luis Castro of Learning Links in third spot at 96 after a 43.

LSGH boys dominated the top three in Juniors with Guerrero on top at 91, Ramos next at 89 and Miggy Yee 87 in a very close race.
