Sta. Elena, Villamor dominate WGAP Cangolf leg

MANILA, Philippines - Sta. Elena regained its winning form and topped Class A while Villamor and Tagaytay Highlands posted a win and a runner-up finish each in the sixth leg of the 2013 Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club’s North course in Laguna recently.

Wilherminia Attwood scored 37 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system, Carina Ricamonte shot a 35, and Amy Ward and Carmela Lee added a 34 and 33, respectively, as Sta. Elena pooled a 139 and beat Villamor by six in the premier division of the three-category event presented by Champion Infinity.

Sta. Elena also ruled the fourth leg at Orchard but failed to land in the top three in the last stage of the circuit organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phils. at Midlands swept by Tagaytay Highlands.

Sam Martirez fired 39 points and took the individual crown while leading Villamor’s 133 card that included a 34 from Harmie Constantino, a 32 from Marie Guerrero and a 28 from Jo Barredo.

Host Canlubang, led by Recy Barrientos and Vanessa Tsutsui’s 36 points, settled for third at 129, edging Camp Aguinaldo in the countback.

Villamor dominated Class B with a 135 as Melissa Gozum shot 40 points, Pearl Wu and Ting Yupangco carded identical 32s and Gloria De Villa chipped in a 31 for a five-point victory over Tagaytay.

Aguinaldo placed third with a 126 while Rosario Dimson of Tagaytay captured the individual plum with 35 points, nipping Aguinaldo’s Nitz Salivio and Forest Hills’ Mary Ang in the countback.

Tagaytay Highlands, behind Marissa Vergara’s 32 and Marlene Varua, Erlinda Gamut and Josefina Bautista’s similar 31 points, struck in Class C, assembling a 125 for an eight-point romp over Alabang. Aguinaldo finished third again with a 114.

Forest Hill’s Carmen Co churned out a 36-point game for the individual title.
