Cagayan guns for No. 5; Smart tries again vs Air Force

Games today

2 p.m. – FEU vs Cagayan

4 p.m. – Smart vs Air Force

MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan Province tries to formalize its stint in the next round while Smart-Maynilad seeks a playoff for the last quarters berth as they take on a pair of struggling squads in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City today.

After a four-set win over Air Force to kick off its campaign last Aug. 23, the Rising Suns have never dropped a set as they rolled past Smart Net Spikers, the Navy Lady Sailors and the Meralco Power Spikers, making them the solid favorites against the winless Far Eastern U Lady Tams at 2 p.m.

Smart, meanwhile, hopes to come out strong from a long break as they mix it up with Air Force in the 4 p.m. main game. After a sweep of their first three matches, the Net Spikers stumbled against the Rising Suns, derailing their march to the next phase of the season-ending conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

But they are expected to rebound coming off a nine-day break with more polished play-patterns anchored on Sue Roces, Maru Banaticla, Gretchel Soltones and Charo Soriano.

But the Air Women are also out to improve their 1-2 card, looking for a follow-up to their straight-set romp over the Lady Tams last Aug. 30 behind the troika of Judy Ann Caballejo, Joy Cases and Maika Ortiz along with Jennifer Manzano, Wendy Semana, Liza de Ramos and Iari Yongco.

Meanwhile, the Meralco-Navy match last Tuesday will be shown on GMA News TV Channel 11 at 1 p.m. today. Today’s Cagayan-FEU duel will be shown tomorrow and the Smart-Air Force clash will be aired on Monday, according to the organizing Sports Vision.
