Juvic ends 34th in Japan KBC golf

MANILA, Philippines - Juvic Pagunsan carded a second straight 72 and finished joint 34th in the weather-shortened Vana H Cup KBC Augusta won by Sung Joon Park for the second straight year at the Keya Golf Club in Fukuoka, Japan yesterday.

Pagunsan, who started out in joint 18th with a two-under 70 but slipped back with an even par round Saturday, birdied two of the last five holes to salvage a 72 and post a 54-hole total of 214, 10 strokes off the pace. He took home Y437,250 (P198,316).

The ace Filipino shotmaker made a double-bogey start and fumbled with two bogeys on Nos. 7 and 12 against a birdie on the third. But he charged back in the closing holes, birdying Nos. 14 and 17 while making just seven putts in the last five holes.

Park birdied No. 18 to fire a 69 for a 12-under 204 as he posted a two-shot lead over Jung Gon Hwang, who had a 206 also after a 69 while Yano Azuma fired the day’s best 66 to finish third at 207.
