Tsui rules EK leg, gets boost for karter-of-the-year award

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Christopher Joseph “CJ” Tsui of Formula-E Racing, one of last year’s top three contenders for the overall plum,  gave a first hand demonstration  of his championship caliber  with  his impressive feat as overall champion in the Enchanted Kingdom leg of the 2013 Coca-Cola Karting Super Series recently in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The  monsoon rains did little to unsetle  the 18-year-old La Salle freshman who dominated the pre-final and final races to capture both the premier ROK senior and overall crowns with the support of Asia Overseas Transport Co. Inc.

It is his first season triumph which comes just at the right time as he  fortifies his bid for the Karter of the Year award just as what his coach and Formula-E Racing Management CEO Elson Carpio has been prodding him to.

Tsui clocked the fastest time of 32.323 seconds.  And after being eclipsed by frontrunning Daniel Miranda in the qualifying heat, Tsui unleashed near-flawless run to prevail over veteran Formula-E Racing teammate Bobby Domingo and get back at Miranda in the 21-lap abbreviated final race, enjoying a 2.298 second-lead just before clerk-of-course Gabby Intengan raised the red flag as the downpour worsened.

“That’s one good thing about CJ.  He probably got disoriented and dismayed with his so-so performances in the past legs.  Success doesn’t come in a silver platter and it takes a lot of hard work and determination to fulfill his destiny,” said Carpio.

“What struck him is when I said that his best wasn’t good enough. From there he understood, learned from his past lapses and refocused his sight on what needs to be done,” he added.
