Ateneo surges back, nips Benilde
MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo banked on Joma Adornado and Jerie Pingoy in the crunch as the Blue Eagles downed the St. Benilde Blazers, 70-60, in the 11th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda gym in Mendiola last Sunday.
Adornado and Pingoy hit a triple each in the last 2:13 as the Blue Eagles rallied from 43-47 down to beat Blazers and post their second victory in three games.
Cameroonian Chibueze Ikeh led Ateneo with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Hope Christian School and San Beda, meanwhile, beat their respective rivals in the juniors division at the Trinity University of Asia gym.
John Apacible and James Galoso took over down the stretch as Hope routed TUA, 83-61, for its fifth straight win in Group A.
The Red Cubs held off the Emilio Aguinaldo College-ICA cagers, 71-67, in Group B.
In other games, Jeriz Ruiz topscored for the Arellano University Chiefs, who downed University of the East, 64-57, for a 3-2 card.
