Jayvie-Cyna duel looms in ICTSI LPGT
MANILA, Philippines - Jayvie Agojo and Cyna Rodriguez brace for a showdown between former Philippine Ladies Open champions when the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour holds its third leg on Aug. 28 at the Aoki course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.
Agojo, winner of the 2005 PLO at Manila Golf Club and the former Hong Kong Amateur Open champion, seeks to improve on a pair of fifth-place finishes in the circuit’s first two legs at The Country Club and Canlubang, both ruled by former ICTSI teammate Dottie Ardina.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, is out to complete an unfinished business after blowing her title bid in the kickoff leg at TCC as an amateur and settled for third. The upcoming 54-hole tournament also marks the pro debut of the 2010 PLO champion at Manila Southwoods.
The P500,000 event, put up by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. in its continuing effort to help develop the sport and give the country’s ladies pros a circuit of their own, was originally scheduled last week but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The one-week break likewise gave the field more time to hone up as they vie for the top P100,000 purse in the tournament organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and backed by Nike Golf, Pacsports, Gatorade, Sharp and Custom Clubmakers.
Also seeing action are Sarah Ababa, Reb Bareng, Lina De Guzman, Apple Fudolin, Lucy Landicho, Barsy Leonen, Eva Miñoza, Marjorie Pulumbarit, Jan Punzalan, Tracy Que, Anya Tanpinco and Sylvia Torres.
Mary Grace Estuesta and Heidi Chua, also former Philippine Ladies Open champions, are also competing in the event that also features amateurs Nikki Bruce, Sofia Chabon, Angela de Villa and Felicia Medalla.
From Eagle Ridge, the five-stage tour will go to Wack Wack for the ICTSI Wack Wack LPGT on Sept. 10-12 before winding up in Baguio for the ICTSI Camp John Hay LPGT on Oct. 29-31.
