Phl Ladies golf, NCAA, UAAP games called off

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Heavy rains spawned by Tropical Storm Maring forced the organizing Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. to cancel the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour Eagle Ridge leg scheduled to start today at Eagle Ridge’s Aoki course.

Although the all-weather layout in Gen. Trias, Cavite remains playable, PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa said foremost is the safety of the players vying in the 54-hole tournament serving as the third leg of the five-stage inaugural women’s pro golf circuit.

The new date will be announced later.

Wack Wack, meanwhile, will host the fourth leg on Sept. 10-12 before the circuit winds up in Baguio for the  Camp John Hay LPGT on Oct. 29-31.

The NCAA has also postponed its pair of Season 89 games pitting  Lyceum against San Sebastian and St. Benilde versus Perpetual Help at The Arena in San Juan.

The resumption of the postponed games will be announced at a later date.

The UAAP decided to call off its Season 76 juniors basketball games scheduled for today at the Blue Eagle Gym due to heavy rains and flooding caused by Maring, league secretary-treasurer Ma. Luisa Isip announced.

The affected games – Far Eastern versus University of the Philippines-Integrated School, Santo Tomas versus Ateneo, University of the East versus National U, and Adamson versus La Salle-Zobel – will be moved to a later date.
