Altas, Diliman 5 top Martin’s Cup

MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help and Diliman Preparatory School scored victories in contrasting fashions to boost their respective bids in the 11th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda College-Mendiola campus in Manila.

The Altas, bannered by Michael Cenita and six-foot-seven Nigerian Akhuetie Bright, blasted the UP Maroons, 85-55, while the DPS cagers pulled off a 68-62 upset of the defending champion UE Warriors.

Cenita tallied 19 points while Bright chipped in 14 points for the Altas, who notched their third consecutive win in Group B in seniors play.

Mark Yaron and Paul Soleta shot 19 and 14 points, respectively, for DPS, which finally scored a win in four starts.

UE dropped to second spot at 3-1 in Group A with Lyceum wresting the lad with a 3-0 mark. The Pirates waylaid the San Sebastian Stags, 80-57, last Saturday.
