Vosotros rescues La Salle in OT win over Adamson
MANILA, Philippines - Almond Vosotros buried a jumper with 1.8 seconds left in overtime to lift La Salle to a thrilling 70-69 victory over Adamson at the start of the second round of the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
The Archers had several chances to take the game away in the waning moments of the extension period, and the spitfire guard came up big after grabbing the offensive board and drilling the game-clinching 8-footer
"Lucky shot lang. Naka-focus na ako sa rebound tapos nakuha ko bola. Lucky shot," Vosotros stressed.
Jericho Cruz had the chance to steal game for Adamson but had a miserable look at the basket, launching a prayer that missed as time expired.
"It's good for the team that we know we can win close games. I hope we can build on this one," said La Salle coach Juno Sauler.
Rodney Brondial starred in Adamson’s comeback bid in the payoff period, scoring their last nine points, including two clutch free throws to tie the game 62-all with 42.8 ticks left.
The Archers failed to convert in the ensuing possession while the Falcons blew numerous chances with Harry Petilos, Celedonio Trollano and Brondial all missing in a wild finish that sent the game into overtime.
Vosotros led La Salle with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists while Arnold Van Opstal added 13 points to help the Taft-based cagers improve their record with 4-4.
The Archers missed the services of Thomas Torres and Luigi Dela Paz due to flu, but Sauler said they will be back in harness in their next game.
Brondial had a monster performance with 19 points and 23 boards while Jericho Cruz and Roider Cabrera chipped in 15 and 11 markers, respectively, but it was not enough as the Falcons dropped to 3-5.
