Julaton eyes 3rd straight vs Mexican in row
MANILA, Philippines - Fil-Am Ana Julaton sets out for a third straight victory and fourth in her last five bouts as she faces off with Celina Salazar in a 10-round featherweight bout on Aug. 18 at Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico.
Nicknamed “The Hurricane,†the 33-year-old Julaton is actually eyeing two fights in two months since a victory over Salazar will arrange a possible title crack against reigning IBF bantamweight champion Yazmin Rivas in September.
The Julaton-Rivas duel is being considered to be featured in the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sept. 15.
“We’ll see how it goes in Cancun and I’m happy to have a stage again to do this,†said Julaton, a San Francisco, California native who have moved and trained in Las Vegas, Nevada since two years ago.
“If Yazmin Rivas is indeed next on the undercard of Mayweather versus Canelo fight, then I’ll be ready. I want to fight for the world championship as soon as possible,†she added.
Julaton, a former WBO and IBA world champion who currently holds a 12-3-1 (win-loss-draw) record, said she needs all the support she could get, especially from Filipinos.
“I hope all my countrymen all over the world will be able to watch my fight and especially back home in Pangasinan and all over the Phl,†she said.
Julaton has been training in Las Vegas for a couple of months now and should be in peak form on fight night.
